BIOGRAPHY

Barrut is like a tightrope stretched across an abyss. Harmony keeps us from falling. Voices come together. Composed of three female singers, four male singers, and a percussionist, all hailing from the northern shores of the Mediterranean, Barrut travels the roads, and the choirs beat.
The seven voices rise in subtle harmony and powerful emotion, drawing on the origins of polyphonic singing, which they fuse with the powerful rhythms of sharp percussion carved from rock. With its original compositions imbued with the vigor of folk singing, BARRUT draws its fever and expression of rebellion from music that is constantly stretched above the madness of the world. Involved in the movement of traditional polyphonies and contemporary music, the energy and gentleness of BARRUT’s music travels through that exhilarating, festive, and subversive interstice, always mistreated and always invested: poetry.
After 10 years of existence and more than 400 concerts, Barrut continues its work of exploration, introspection, and expression, refining and affirming ever more the singularity of its words and musicality, and giving life to a unique polyphony that is both contemporary and timeless.
